East Coast Australia Road Trip – Part 2 – Kingscliff to Airlie Beach

After spending a night in Kingscliff (Full guide here: https://emmaleneexploring.com/travel-diary-kingscliff-nsw/) we continued our East Coast Australia Road Trip and drove to Tweed Heads. We stopped for breakfast at Cafe DBar which sits overlooking the ocean. Our next stop was the Sunshine Coast where we planned to stay the night however it turns out everywhere was booked out. So, we had a look around Mooloolaba and added it to our ‘must visit’ list before we kept going to Noosa.

We loved Noosa! It was beautiful and had a great laid-back feel. There were cute little cafe’s, beautiful beaches and accommodation right on the beach. We didn’t get a chance to see everything we wanted so it was another place we added to our list. After a lot of google-ing we eventually found a spot to camp near Lake Cootharaba. It was packed full of campers, we barely had enough room for our tent, there were tonnes of mosquitoes and it rained all night. One night there was enough for us.

We woke up early the next morning and got packed up so we could get straight on the road. We drove four and a half hours north to Gladstone where we got a room at a nice hotel and spent the rest of the day swimming in the hotel pool. After a good night’s sleep we spent the next day driving to our next stop, Airlie Beach. On the way, we did stop in at Mackay to have lunch at the Eimeo Hotel which I highly recommend. It sits on top of a hill, right on the cliff overlooking the ocean!

We made it to Airlie in time for New Years Eve which was a blast! We visited our favourite beach (Hydeaway Bay) and spent a few days kicking back – it was nice to have a break from all the driving. After a few days relaxing, we repacked the ute ready for our next part of the trip: Airlie Beach to Cape Tribulation. Stay tuned for part 3!
